Sink or Swim

I am honest enough to admit that swimming is not a strength of mine. It is definitely the weak link in my triathlon chain. In fact, of the 2 triathlons that I've completed, I only beat 2 people out of the water total and let's just say both of these ladies qualified for the senior citizen discount at Denny's.

Unlike other sports, you can't just power through the water. Swimming is about efficiency and technique .... gliding through the water. Today I scheduled a private swim lesson at the Texas Christian University recreation center. The lesson is not until May 28th.

My hope is that with 8-12 sessions at 1-2 per week will give me the tools I need to be an efficient swimmer.

I know you can do it. Keep your head down and glide ......

I think seeking training is a good step for you if this is truly a goal you wish to achieve, because we all know you can do it.

Hi,
I just stumbled though ur blog. I have never done a Tri myself but my first one is 1/2 IM in Florida this May. Keep the good work. I learned swimming last year and I was in same situation as urs..but I am 165lbs :)...now I can swim upto 2.5 miles with 40 lap breaks..Its all about practice, technique and determination. One day it just clicks and I was able to do it..it will happen to u. Make sure u swim every day atleast 5 days upto 1hr 60-70 laps don't worry about the breaks u take try 2 laps and when ur HR is high push it to 4 laps and 6 laps. You have more strength muscles than endurance muscles (i am guessing as u r a body builder)..it will take time. My swim is slow 28-30 sec per lap and i have reduce it to 23-25 secs..I am about to take wknd classes now to improve my technique. I am from NYC. Email me at sshilagani@gmail.com may be we can help each other in training.
